Oil on paper
Signed on the front.
The buttery skies and the vivid hues I wish I was still seeing in Sydney, but the fire smoke is thick and I don't hold out much hope that it'll clear.
As I continue my journey into this exciting world of semi-abstract landscapes and oil paint, I'm finding myself stepping outside of my comfort zone and headlong into challenges that I wouldn't have contemplated even a year ago. For all my life, I've been a biological artist focused on detail and realism, so you can imagine how different this is for me. In this piece, I'm taking challenge further and experimenting with colours in a way that focuses more on mood rather than realism.
As with most of my oil pieces thus far, this piece was made with many layers over a long period of time, to allow the various hues and textures to make an impact. This was painted on rough 300gsm cotton paper to add to the texture of the painting.
This painting would look amazing in a dark frame with dark matting. I hope you like it as much as I do.
