A bit of an experiment: Start out with a green-gold underpainting, and then block in the upper layers with a palette knife. Once done, I went back and scraped through some areas to allow the gold below to seem through. I really like this, because I think it reached a good balance between dark and light, and between blended areas and texture.
Although painted on wood, this is thin enough to frame. It'll be flat packed when shipped.
