Fish, No Chips - Spangled Emperor

Living near the beach, we often go fishing, not that I have ever caught anything than Hering or whiting (yet) but the sparkling scales of fish are absolutely beautiful to look.
I remember snorkelling in Coral Bay, WA and schools of sparkling emperors hiding in the shade under the boats, only an arm lengths away. Just Devine...

This particular painting is created with acrylic paint on canvas. The canvas is covered with newspaper clippings and sepia ink to make it look like your typical fish (and chips) on old newspaper.
I added a very slight shimmer to the fish to make it feel more life like. The newspaper part is covered with matte varnish whereas the fish is covered in gloss to “lift” the fish of the background.

Her journey as an artist began by creating the most intricate black and white pencil drawings using mainly animals as her subjects. Nowadays Lara still enjoys working with pencils to create pet portraits by commissions.
