Artwork Description

Scrimshaw is the engraving on bone or ivory. Australia’s whaling history dates back to 1791 and sailors on whalers carved whale teeth to pass time. The bones were burned as fuel so I have sketched in charcoal to mark the history.

A humpback whale and a lighthouse loosely sketched in charcoal on a ‘tooth'. Painted in oils on board and framed in salvaged wood.
