In this huge artwork, several real fossils of indigenous flowers have been studied and included in shades of light beige, off white, ochre, soft terracotta, charcoal black and deep brown.

Whispers of the Past is an abstraction of Paleobotany - fossil plants and flowers in Australia. It is part of the Dune Series. This oversized abstract artwork is a diptych.
Each panel measures 274 cm x 144cm x 4cm when stretched.

Creating a 3m artwork in width and 274cm high
3m is calculated with a small gap of 8cm - a larger artwork can be created with a bigger spacing between the panels.

This artwork is unstretched and ships in rolled in a tube.
The full size of each piece is 286 x 156cm - allowing a 6cm edge for stretching. The final stretched size of each would be 274 cm x 144cm. If hung horizontally - the height would be 274cm and the length would be 3m with a 12cm gap between the panels.

A small signature is visible on the RHS of the artwork and reverse of the artwork.

Artist Bio

Australian artist Laurie Franklin (b. 1981) is an established, internationally collected painter known for her layering of paint and mixed media to create tactile works ranging from mountains, seascapes to florals and abstracted forms.

Laurie has sold 1000s of artworks since starting painting in 2002, artwork is displayed in hotels, restaurants and held collections in over 20 countries. Past hotel projects have included 200m of hand painted wallpaper and hundreds of original artworks for hotel suites.

Based in Melbourne, Australia she works from a large studio space allowing several artworks to be worked on simultaneously. She travels and undertakes Art residencies around the world, the changing scenery influences her unique approach to capturing the intrinsic character of the landscape . Her gestural style, tight color palette and use of metallic elements create tactile, intriguing artworks.
