In Greek mythology, Pandora opens the jar all the evils escape into the world. However, Hope remained, trapped under the lid of the jar. In this image, Hope is captured in the warm light of the jar.
This painting is a contemporary take on Pandora, from Greek mythology. Pandora was said to be dressed in silver clothes and a golden crown. In this case, I’ve given her a crown of golden hair. For this version of Pandora’s jar, I’ve taken liberty with the size, shrinking it to a small and very portable glowing orb. The glowing light represents hope, which was said to be retained in the jar after all the evils of the world had escaped.
