I am interested in the way the figure is constrained within the frame of the canvas. The lines on the clothing accentuate the movement within the piece and give it a graphic quality with contrasts with the realism of the skin tones.
This particular painting shows a young woman leaning forward with her hands outstretched. It is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland squatting down to inspect the small door. Although there is no door in this painting.
