The Return of the Faeries

Beneath Elm amongst Foxgloves you sit
In front of you a circle of mushrooms
Of moonlight
Is lit
Laughter and tinkling music
Food folly and fun,
We dance at this midnight hour
For summer has begun…

In days past…

When harvest time came
your world thanked ours
for haystacks
full orchards and fat cows
Maypoles
straw dollies
Cider and
sunshine.

We met in other places
In a hollow of a tree
In a forest
In meadows
On mountains
At streams,
On ancient gnome footpaths
Your children they did dance
Music carried in lightness on a forest breeze…

And Earth was thus balanced.

Then a darkness started creeping like fog across a damp field
A darkness
A forgetfulness
Of malice and greed
Kept moving
Ever building
Till it covered the whole world.

The birds tried warning
But who listened were few
It seemed like the wise ones and only children knew
That something was happening that couldn’t be stopped
For humans as a part of nature they had forgot.

Wild places and woodland
It seemed all was lost
And creatures
Also
Were gone…
To the otherworld
Departed
Broken hearted.

Faerie folk withdrew
And were seldom seen
People forgot them
Until they didn’t believe
that such nature spirits ever did live
amongst us
for us
in our Earth so green.

So in human hearts now
a depression did seep
a heaviness
a sadness
a knowing of a lonely life
and centuries did pass
depression it grew
these bad times cherished only by the greedy few.

Then…

From a desperate emptiness
Human kind they did feel
The Earth sobbing
Purging
A fervour did build.

Those with old knowledge
This time it was theirs
To spark a fire in the hearts of those who still cared
And a thousand soft whispers
Spoken by Angels at night
To the ears of sleeping children
Calling them to the fight
And a memory of a memory
Of shaded Oak forests
Clean streams of frog and dragon fly
Bee song filled valleys
And oceans so clean
Of tortoises butterflies and Thylacines

This new human yearning turns into a roar
To the greedy little men we will listen no more
In Faerie Land Pan calls to his people
“The time has come now
With these humans we will shall stand
And from our world all the creatures
with us will return
Taken from you until your lesson was learnt!”

The sadness in human hearts gone now and replaced
By the love that humanity now will be graced.

At midnight from a Hollyhock cottage you step
From under a veranda where sleeping a swallow she nests
Along an old pathway
Frog and cricket song
A scarecrow
A hedgehog
A platypus pond
Through apple orchard
Neath a branch of the owl
Pass a chestnut fox on
his prowl
On towards the woodland
Under star light
wrapped in a red coat
On this Beltane night
Crouching then sitting
In front of you stands
A magic circle formed by mushrooms of this enchanted land
Bell harp and whistle and horns of Bluebells
Music for dancing
The Faerie folk move to so well
Then a Fae lady stops dancing to pause
“come dance with us human we shall celebrate the night..
Till dawn pink with promise ends this holy night”

Artist Bio

I have always been creative and enjoyed drawing and art at school whilst growing up in the Illawarra district of New South Wales. My trade as a Farrier [Blacksmith] although also a science is regarded as very artistic in nature. I now live in the North East Victoria region and am of both Italian and Australia heritage.
In 2006 I got serious about drawing and then moved onto oil painting, which I love, in 2014. Being totally self taught I have benefited from this and have developed my own style and have not followed marketing subject trends but painted from heart.

My paintings start with a strong emotional narrative and I use subjects in both a literal and symbolic way so as to open a door to wonder and imagination for the viewer whilst giving them the room to discover their own interpretations.

I am thoroughly rewarded when people are touched by my work, maybe recalling a sweet memory or desire and are left with a new sense of how beautiful life really is. Combined with my paintings I include written pieces/poetry that adds to and supports the messages I am conveying.
My process begins with a strong idea and title followed by a photo shoot with my models. I then go to the canvas and do the first under paintings and this is followed slowly with multiple layers of oil paint over the next months to bring these paintings alive.
I have an endless stream of inspirations and ideas that I want to paint and my hope is to touch as many hearts as possible, creating something beautiful in the memories of people while constantly developing my artistic skills.
