Artwork Description

"Sing me Home" is a mixed-media artwork that combines fabric scraps meticulously pieced together to create a textured foundation of pattern, shape, and color. Upon this vibrant quilt of materials, a tender image emerges—a dog, ear lifted, as if straining to catch a familiar sound. This pup, surrounded by the comforting yet complex maze of neighborhood houses, embodies a universal longing: the search for home. The title, "Sing me Home," suggests a deep connection to the idea that home is not just a place but a melody, a calling that resonates with the heart and guides the lost back to where they belong. This artwork weaves together the tactile warmth of fabric and the emotional narrative of finding one's way, creating a poignant exploration of homecoming and belonging.

Artist Bio

Linda Mitchell is an American artist whose mixed media animal paintings and installations have been featured in over 20 solo exhibitions at museums in the United States.

She was born in Atlanta, Georgia in a family that nurtured her early interest in both animals and making art. Her mother bred cocker spaniels, and Mitchell was encouraged by a great-aunt who taught music, art and drama. As a child, she started painting, making animal figures, and sewing, all of which informed her work as a mature artist.

She received a BFA from UGA, and 2 MFAs from GSU in painting and sculpture. In graduate school she developed a visual language combining her painted and sculptural imagery, resulting in mixed media paintings and installations that are complex and dream-like. The artist’s intuitive approach allows poetic meaning to emerge from the highly textural layering of painted and other diverse materials.
