This piece started as a piece for a local queer arts fest and it's aim was to promote 'Love is Love', as I genuinely believe love has no gender. Now the painting is finished I see it in two ways, I don't identify the owl as either him or her, the owl just is.
The owl looks eldery, wise to the world, like it has been knocked down many times in it's life, but still even with weary eyes wears it's heart on it's chest with pride, I am who I am and I am proud of it.
Then when I look at it the way I have painted the headdress it reminds me of an old gypsy fortune teller, with a message to give "All you need is love".
Painted with mixed media, this piece is quite heavily textured, painted on stretched boxed canvas with black painted sides, signed and ready to hang.
