Artwork Description

On a beautiful, clear summer morning, you can always expect to see a lot of people out and about, especially down by the water. On my morning walk at Cronulla, it's no different - there are always heaps of people about, enjoying the sun, getting their steps up, having their morning coffee. I snapped a photo of this couple one morning as I was walking past. They'd just arrived and were settling into their spot by the water, the sun dancing off the ocean in front of them. There were plenty of other people around, both in and out of the water, but I wanted to capture just these two in my painting. We all live in our own little bubbles, even when we're amongst hundreds of others doing exactly the same thing. This painting captures that little world we live in where it's just us - ourselves and those we've chosen to be with - and everything else is just white noise.

This work will be available for purchase online and will also be on display at the Bluethumb Gallery in Richmond, Melbourne as part of the gallery's 'Bluethumb x Southern Buoy: 40 x 40' exhibition from May 2nd - July 1st. Interested collectors may inquire prior to this date.

Artist Bio

Recently named one of Bluethumb's Top 10 Landscape Artists of 2023!

Born and bred in Sydney, and now living in the suburb of Miranda, visual artist Lisa Turner creates colour conscious, imaginative works that enchantingly depict Australia’s suburban, coastal and agricultural imagery. Interested in illustration since early childhood, she would frequently sketch copy photographs, logos, pictures and common household items she found visually appealing.

Opting to take art classes and paint during her secondary schooling years, Lisa often felt limited by feelings of fear and a lack of creative confidence, and ultimately abandoned art to gain a degree in business and marketing. Two decades later, after the birth of her children and at the encouragement of her husband, she took a few casual art courses and reenergised her passion for painting and creating.

Initially attempting to tightly copy the imagery she observed around her, as she did in her youth, Lisa suddenly found this practice limiting and decided to explore a more liberal abstract approach. She soon became drawn to the non-literal portrayal of shapes and lighting contrasts, and found the emergence of her style through the practice and refinement of these depictions. While her works constantly develop and evolve, she is consistently influenced by the interesting and simplistic scenes she sees, and the engaging formations, tones and light scapes they produce.

Lisa’s artworks are held in private collections within Australia, New Zealand, the United States, France, Switzerland, Canada and the United Kingdom. Her unique works are currently available for purchase on her webpage, as well as on Bluethumb. Lisa presently works out of her permanent home-based studio in Miranda, where she most enjoys working in the mornings and early afternoons when the natural light is at its strongest.
