Artwork Description

She Came to Dance began with colour, movement and the feeling of a woman completely lost in the moment.
As the painting developed, I started to see her emerge from the layers — slender and unapologetic, surrounded by sweeping marks that reminded me of extravagant feather boas. The flowers seemed to become part of her costume, almost as though she had stepped onto a stage and brought the whole garden with her.
I love the fact that she isn't immediately obvious. At first you might simply see colour, flowers and movement. Then, gradually, a figure appears.
For me, she represents that wonderful moment when we stop worrying about how we're supposed to look or behave and simply let ourselves be seen, celebrate who we are and dance anyway.
Painted with acrylic on a large gallery-wrapped canvas, the loose brushwork, drips and layers are deliberately energetic. I wanted the painting to feel alive — a little wild, a little glamorous and completely unrestrained.
She came to dance. And she wasn't going to apologise for taking up space. ❤️
