During a recent renovation I spent time re-arranging our collection of Persian Carpets. As I was unrolling them, it brought so many memories of my childhood in Africa; spent in front of my parent’s carpet loom. My brother and I were taught the basics of knot making, and we marvelled at the construction of Middle Eastern carpets. I started making a few thumbnail sketches from details of our carpet collection, and slowly kept on adding to them. Soon I managed to gather enough visual info to design a few paintings inspired by our own rugs, as well as memories from my childhood. It has been such a poignant re-imagining of memories and vignettes, which will be added to on a regular basis
