Teal Lilies in Quiet Light is a contemporary floral watercolour painted in fresh layers of teal, aqua and blue-green against the natural white of the paper.

There is a more graphic quality to these new florals than in much of my earlier watercolour work. The shapes are deliberate and contained, while the movement of the pigment keeps them alive as the colour separates, deepens and softens across the petals.

Painted on a full sheet of heavyweight artist-quality watercolour paper, at 56 × 76 cm this is a substantial work with plenty of presence while retaining the freshness and immediacy of watercolour.
