I confess that I am a fan of hats. Outside of a racing carnival one can feel conspicuous wearing a fashionable hat - the odd stare comes your way.
The two characters in the painting have contrasting emotions - because of the hat or is there something else at play?
I have used a similar palette to “The Sisters” inspired by mid century modern colour palettes for this piece.
