Painted plein-air during Victoria's 2020-21 lockdowns, this is image of the painter's back courtyard was inspired by Jan Verneer's, The Little Street. It uses multiple viewpoints, the artist having changed position by about 120 degrees from the viewing of the tree on the right to the observation of the side of the house on the left. Marco has worked up some of the areas of the painting while leaving loose brushwork and colour exposed in other areas of the painting, creating an interplay of abstraction and figuration. The painting is a record, made over time which is distilled together into one single image, giving an unusual sense of space and time.
