Artwork Description

I paint such a variety of subjects and mediums. I have always found peace with water..a bit of the old dutch heritage in me perhaps. The river is within 2 kms of me and is used by canoeists/kayakers and its so close to the centre of Canberra. The light is my inspiration.

Artist Bio

Margaret Hadfield-Zorgdrager has been working as a professional artist in the Canberra/Queanbeyan region for 30 yrs. Margaret paints in all mediums and her major works have featured in numerous art awards including Paddington Art Prize, Portia Geach Art Prize, Gallipoli Art Prize (most times) Fishers Ghost Art Prize etc...
Won the 2006 Inaugural Gallipoli Art Prize and 6 of her military themed works have been exhibited by the Australian Government in the Netherlands,Turkey and France. The Gallipoli Series which are around 24 pieces have been exhibited in Griffith Regional Gallery, The Q Queanbeyan , Singleton Library and Corowa Civic Gallery. Margaret's painting of the RAN International Fleet Revue in Sydney (2013) was purchased and hangs in the National Maritime Museum and a work from the same event is hung on board the warship HMAS PERTH.
Margaret has her own gallery/studio space in Canberra called the ARTISTS SHED and teaches in all mediums.. In 2016 Margaret was invited to teach Watercolour on board a Holland-America cruise ship to Antarctica from Florida for 67 days. Margaret's portraits include -Singer Helen Reddy, Australian of the year Professor Fiona Wood, basketballer Lauren Jackson, Elder Matilda House, Natasha Stott-Despoja and Geraldine Cox were all painted from life. Also Curtis McGrath Para-Olympian. Exhibiting/commissioned artist in BOAA (Bienale of Australian Art-Ballarat 2018) and also major commission of General Sir John Monash for Jewish memorial Centre ,Canberra 2018.
2024 participating in The Other Art Fair in Sydney and continuing the exploration of Military history work with another finalist entry in the Gallipoli Art Prize. Margaret,s works continue to evolve with Branching Out Series,seascapes and textures.
