Artist Bio

Margaret is a versatile and experienced artist based in Sydney and works from her Pearl Beach Studio. A sculptor, a ceramicist, and a painter, Margaret is inspired by people and the environment.

Since Margaret began her artistic career, she has proven to be a versatile artist always exploring new techniques and ways to express her artistic vision.

Margaret’s works are a response the environment figuratively and in abstract. Alongside this philosophy she creates functional ceramics that are imbued with the wholesome warmth and feel to be used in every day life.

Margaret has worked in many roles in Adult Education Outreach. In 2005 have worked as an Art Educator with a group of people who live with mental illness. This program still runs today at the Pottery, the Historic Gladesville. Margaret's role has been to not only teach but to apply for grants and run various programs and the outcomes for the artists have been taking part in exhibitions and community events.

In 2012 Margaret completed a Masters of Art at the College of Fine Arts, Paddington and during this time a field trip to the UNSW Fowlers Gap Research Station and meetings with Janet Lawrence, provided the inspiration and impetus to develop projects including paintings, ceramics and installation works focusing on the people and environment.

In October 2015 Margaret completed an artist residency program at Artes Studio Ginestrelle , Assisi, Umbria, Italy. The overall project plan was to respond to the environment and people part of that response was a land artwork, which developed over the four weeks she was in residence. Nine hundred year old terracotta roof tiles were used to construct a form reflecting the undulating hills, which surrounded the Residency. The work was called Tegola Antiche. A series of paintings were made inspired by Giotto and Fra Angelico. The paintings combined the angels and holy men with modern day iconology.
Black and white images were exhibited at the Ginestrelle Art Exhibition, which was held in November 2015 in Assisi, Umbria Italy.

In 2017 Margaret was part of a joint exhibition of five ceramicists at the Incinerator and in September exhibited at the Ewart Gallery combining paintings and ceramics. In both exhibitions Margaret has combined her painting and ceramic skills to make landscape forms series.

In 2018 Margaret exhibited Paintings and Ceramics exhibition called Confluence at the Ewart Gallery Workshop Arts Centre Willoughby.
Margaret continues to make works that respond to the environment creating an awareness that we have to make urgent and important decisions which may help people to make informed decisions about the fragility of our environment.
