Artwork Description

Sunrise in Provence by Mariana Kalacheva is a vibrant celebration of the charm and warmth of Mediterranean village life. The painting captures a sun-soaked hillside, adorned with quaint houses that are brought to life through an explosion of colors and textures. Each building, with its unique character, reflects the timeless beauty of traditional Provençal architecture, where the golden hues of the walls and the terracotta rooftops evoke a sense of nostalgia and tranquility.

Kalacheva masterfully employs mixed media to create a rich tapestry of textures, from the rough stone walls to the soft awnings that cast gentle shadows across the facades. The careful use of 3D elements adds depth to the scene, making the village appear almost tangible, as though one could step into this idyllic setting and feel the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze of the countryside.

The painting is not just a depiction of a place, but a feeling—a reminder of simpler times and the serene joy found in the quiet corners of the world. Provence invites viewers to lose themselves in the winding streets, to imagine the stories of the people who live behind those charming windows and doors, and to dream of a life filled with beauty, light, and color. Through this work, Kalacheva encapsulates the essence of a place where time seems to stand still, offering a sanctuary for the soul.

Artist Bio

Mariana Kalacheva is an artist from Bulgaria who currently lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her artwork brings to life historical periods, blending the refined style of Art Nouveau with the charming simplicity of children’s book illustrations. Her paintings often depict women in elegant Renaissance attire, set in lush gardens with fragrant flowers, grand trees, vibrant birds, swans, and flamingos. Some scenes show these women relaxing in lavish interiors with their families, lovers, or pets.

Kalacheva's work is deeply influenced by her extensive travels and experiences in the art and yachting industries on the French Riviera, alongside her Bulgarian roots. Her paintings often feature historical treasures, from ancient Thracian artifacts to symbols of Roman emperors, evoking a nostalgic and idyllic past. She constantly explores new techniques and materials, using acrylics, paper collages, fabrics, gels, beads, and papier-mâché on canvas or board. Her art transports viewers to a timeless, enchanted world of beauty, tranquility, and harmony.
