The Portal

My artwork, 'The Portal, is a testament to my deep fascination with the figurative style, where the choice of technique plays a crucial role in bringing the vision to life. The composition is a dynamic blend of light, images, patterns, texture, color, and figuration, all working together to create a vivid and immersive experience.

I am particularly drawn to using 3D paste and gels on the canvas, which not only adds depth and dimension but also invites viewers to engage with the tactile quality of the piece. The pouring paste technique further enhances the artwork by adding expression to the shapes and volumes, making elements like the softness of a dress or the glide of golden leaves almost tangible. 'The Portal' symbolizes a transition between two worlds, capturing the delicate balance between the seen and unseen, the real and the imagined.

Mariana Kalacheva is an artist from Bulgaria who currently lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her artwork brings to life historical periods, blending the refined style of Art Nouveau with the charming simplicity of children’s book illustrations. Her paintings often depict women in elegant Renaissance attire, set in lush gardens with fragrant flowers, grand trees, vibrant birds, swans, and flamingos.
