Artwork Description

‘Calm before the storm’
This is a large alcohol ink painting done on thick Yupo paper. It is an abstract representation of flowers against a dark, stormy sky.

It is called ‘the calm before the storm’ because of the serene, pink flowers and golden droplets are in stark contrast with the dark, gloomy sky in the background.

The gold really adds to this painting. There are droplets and fine veins, that add a touch of luxury and shimmer to it.

This painting has been sprayed with several layers of varnish for protection.
It comes ready to frame.
Frame is not included.

It is mailed in a shipping tube to prevent damage or folding.

Size is 91 x 61 cm.

Artist Bio

Hi, my name is Melanie, and I am so pleased you decided to pop in for a look!

I am an artist living in the beautiful Darling Ranges in Perth, Western Australia. I live here with my husband and 4 kids.
I have always loved the arts, both music and visual, and I really enjoy emerging myself into other peoples art. I LOVE visiting museums and studying paintings, scrutinizing brush strokes and all the the little details. That being said, I mostly find inspiration in the little things. A beautiful sunset, a gathering storm, wildflowers, old buildings, and all kinds of other weird and wonderful things. It wasn't until a few years ago that I finally found the time and courage to really start making my own creations. Art takes courage, you know? Especially when you put a bit of yourself into everything you do.

And I do think I see a lot of myself and my surroundings reflected into my art. My style is eclectic and intuitive. I don't like planning, and I really like experimenting. It suits me. As a person I am pretty much all over the place as well. My household is pretty chaotic (although I can't take all the credit for that, it's more of a joined effort) and so is my art. I love working with alcohol inks. They are a chaotic medium, and they very much do whatever they want to do. You try and steer the chaos, in a way. I also like working with acrylics. Once again, I don't follow a plan, I just see where the moment takes me. I have to say, I love where it has taken me so far!

Anyways, thank you for your interest. I hope you will follow me on this wonderful journey!
