Description:

This floral painting looks like a scene from a children’s story. It looks like looking through a looking glass, or a round window into an overgrown garden. Maybe like a little hobbits home, or the view Alice saw after she fell down the rabbit hole. But then again, I have a wild imagination. I think this playful painting is a cheerful addition to any home.

The lovely golden shimmers gives it that little bit extra.

Materials:

This painting was painted on a round, gallery wrapped canvas. The flowers were painted with alcohol inks. The size is 30 inch or 75 cm.

In order for the inks to flow properly several layers of a special undercoat were added.

Alcohol inks are highly pigmented, alcohol based inks. They can be used like other media like oils, acrylics and watercolors. By layering the inks, and by using different techniques, the artist can create a feeling of depth and flow. The thing that is different about these inks is how unpredictable they are, and to what extend one can control them. Guiding the inks takes a certain level of skill, but also the ability to accept their unruliness. I think that’s why I love them so much!

It is finished with several layers of UV protection and varnish to help prevent fading.

Artist Bio

Hi, my name is Melanie, and I am so pleased you decided to pop in for a look!

I am an artist living in the beautiful Darling Ranges in Perth, Western Australia. I live here with my husband and 4 kids.
I have always loved the arts, both music and visual, and I really enjoy emerging myself into other peoples art. I LOVE visiting museums and studying paintings, scrutinizing brush strokes and all the the little details. That being said, I mostly find inspiration in the little things. A beautiful sunset, a gathering storm, wildflowers, old buildings, and all kinds of other weird and wonderful things. It wasn't until a few years ago that I finally found the time and courage to really start making my own creations. Art takes courage, you know? Especially when you put a bit of yourself into everything you do.

And I do think I see a lot of myself and my surroundings reflected into my art. My style is eclectic and intuitive. I don't like planning, and I really like experimenting. It suits me. As a person I am pretty much all over the place as well. My household is pretty chaotic (although I can't take all the credit for that, it's more of a joined effort) and so is my art. I love working with alcohol inks. They are a chaotic medium, and they very much do whatever they want to do. You try and steer the chaos, in a way. I also like working with acrylics. Once again, I don't follow a plan, I just see where the moment takes me. I have to say, I love where it has taken me so far!

Anyways, thank you for your interest. I hope you will follow me on this wonderful journey!
