After moving to the Blue Mountains, I found a new sense of wonderment in the natural world. Reflecting on tiny details and shifts in light. Playing with light and shadow. Meditative quiet moments lost in a tiny petal. It’s all about the little things and taking in our surroundings.
A constant theme in my work is the idea of transience. I borrow from the language and iconography of Dutch 17th Century still life painting. The chiaroscuro effect is used for the sake of drama and the emotional impact it implies. Hauntingly beautiful, they contemplate space, time and the fragility of the human condition.
