Baudin’s Black Cockatoos were frequent visitors to our garden and neighbourhood a few years back. They are endemic to Southwest, Western Australia and are unfortunately critically endangered.
When they visited, I would often watch and photograph them. The pair I have painted were perched on a tall tree branch which can be seen at the end of our property. I loved the contrast of the spectacular birds against the stark branches of the old tree. They are a stunning Black cockatoo, very similar in appearance to Carnaby’s cockatoo.
Over the years I have seen less of them, rarely hearing their distinctive calls. It was only as I was finishing the painting in my studio that I heard their calls again. I rushed out to see a small flock in our neighbouring trees. They stayed a few minutes and then flew back into the sky to continue their journey, a sad reminder that they may not always be around.
The artwork is carefully sent in a tube ready for framing to your preference.
