Artwork Description

A tranquil coastal scene featuring a 'behind the clouds,' sunlit eucalyptus tree standing at the water’s edge. Soft grey-blue tones of sky and sandy coloured shoreline contrast with the textured greens of foliage and grass, creating a sense of calm and gentle movement. The layered brushwork captures both the solidity of the trunk and the shimmering atmosphere of the surrounding landscape.
This painting is definitely about the strength of the tree.

Artist Bio

Based on Coochiemudlo, a smaller island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, an award winning artist, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.
Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
“There is no grief as you embrace and involve yourself deeply within the subject of your painting,” Millie states after the passing of her only son in 2003. “Painting was a lifesaving form of comfort at the time of my son’s passing, and continues to be up to the present moment.”
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.
