Artwork Description

My parents immigrated from Europe after the second world war, they were kids in the first world war and adults in the second, that's 12 years of brutality and deaths. They never complained and were always very brave people. The Ukrainians are the same. In a small way, this piece of artwork is my tribute to my parents and to the Ukrainian people. The image depicts the Dove of Hope with the Ukrainian national flower in it's beak, the Sunflower. Set against the backdrop of the colours of their flag. An tribute of hope. Slava Ukraini.

Artist Bio

Based on Coochiemudlo, a smaller island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, an award winning artist, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.
Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
“There is no grief as you embrace and involve yourself deeply within the subject of your painting,” Millie states after the passing of her only son in 2003. “Painting was a lifesaving form of comfort at the time of my son’s passing, and continues to be up to the present moment.”
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.
