Fire and Rain

Can't you just feel the freshness of an approaching storm! The temperature drops and the coolness of mother nature surrounds you with strong but soft turbulence. As long as you're safe, it's exhilarating to be surrounded by an approaching storm. This piece is painted with minimal layering so that the feeling of freshness, freedom and light shines through. A feeling of the wind on one's face and the touch of nature is incredible. In this time of Covid, the feelings of freshness, freedom and light is so important to us as human beings and I trust that this artwork conveys those feeling.
I use lightfast oil paints and this piece is varnished with a satin based varnish for protection against light and dust.

Based on Coochiemudlo, a smaller island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, an award winning artist, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.
Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
“There is no grief as you embrace and involve yourself deeply within the subject of your painting,” Millie states after the passing of her only son in 2003. “Painting was a lifesaving form of comfort at the time of my son’s passing, and continues to be up to the present moment.”
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.
