Under the Mangrove Tree - Colourful Acrylic Coastal Seaside Landscape

A cray pot lies under the mangrove tree a common sight for islanders. This is a large painting of the mangroves that surround a part of the island landscape that I live on. Being a marginal ecosystem, a mangrove is unique in that, as an ecosystem it has various interactions with other ecosystems. Another unique feature of mangroves is that, unlike most marginal ecosystems, they are highly productive and dynamic.

Based on Coochiemudlo, a smaller island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, an award winning artist, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.
Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
“There is no grief as you embrace and involve yourself deeply within the subject of your painting,” Millie states after the passing of her only son in 2003. “Painting was a lifesaving form of comfort at the time of my son’s passing, and continues to be up to the present moment.”
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.
