Artwork Description

Acrylic painting , Original Artwork of “ Cockatoos in abstract - australian bush “ by Moira Briel

This artwork was painted with a acrylic pallet on a 61cm by 45.50cm stretched canvas with a depth of 1.5cm on a acrylic canvas and a protective coat of (gloss) varnish has been applied to seal the acrylic paints and ensure the work stays looking its best for a life time

As an artist I love to explore and have fun with something that is different. Here I explored the cockatoos in the Australian bush in abstract form with beautiful eucalyptus trees and all their colourful leaves blending together to form this unique composition. Exploring the shapes of the leaves and trees I was delighted with the intensity of all the colours I used in this composition . The abstract comes together with all the brown and beige eucalyptus trees with a show of its gum nuts fruits. I used a cerulean blue hue on the sky and dots and stripes on the leaves to create a pattern which is pleasing to the eye and catches your attention to the detail used . What I love best on this painting is the two white leaves with the brown twigs in the center of the leaf which makes it the focal point of the painting , just fabulous . The orange and brown leaves mingle amongst the other green leaves of which I used cadmium orange and a stunning van dyke brown in a Matisse paint . I only use the best paints Atelier paints as I find the pigment is so good , but I do love the brown van dyke in Matisse as it has a rich dark brown pigment. Matisse is very similar to the Atelier paints . Nothing nicer then a walk in the forest with the call of nature and the beautiful bright cockatoos looking on with their beautiful white and lemon feathers in all their glory . This abstract tells a story and has many variations of colours to inspire you and would enlighten any room with its beauty and peacefulness

Artist Bio

I am an Australian based wildlife artist with 30 years of experience.

I was born in Zimbabwe and started my art career by studying under professional artists such as wildlife artist Francis Stoki in Zimbabwe and Donald Waters in Queensland Australia . I worked for a taxidermy in Zimbabwe for two years painting wildlife on a large scale for export overseas. One of my paintings sold to the governor of Beirut and the other to the vice president of Zimbabwe at the time.

I left Zimbabwe 17 years ago and now reside in Perth Western Australia. After retiring I finally have the opportunity to paint full time in my studio , something I always wanted to do.

I enjoy painting wildlife the most coming from Africa I find nothing better then capturing the beauty of wild animals in their natural habitat. I paint in acrylics mostly but have done charcoal drawings and soft pastel drawing as well and a bit of water colour and graphic pencils. I have worked in oils before but find acrylics dry a lot faster. I paint realism mostly but of late have switched to a bit of abstract painting which is fun bringing out the stories it tells. I have also done underwater scenes where I can follow the swirls and patterns of the water creating movement and patterns which are pleasing to the eye. I paint flowers, animals, underwater scenes, abstract, realism, still life, marine life, beach life, sea scapes and birds just to name a few , so keep an eye open for something different as i intend to give you just that
