Artwork Description

I love depicting serene river scenes with the sometimes slow moving waters leaving a calming effect. This is close to the image which I first tried to depict many years ago when we visited Tumut on our way to northern Victoria. I have to admit it was a fail, not only was I fighting the elements of cold, wet and windy weather on the morning, but it was the second time I gave en plein air a go using watercolours. We visited the same area on the morning we left as the sun had come out for a while and we took more reference images. "Spring Green Reflections along the Tumut River" is depicting a totally different angle to the well known images of stunning Autumn hues in the Tumut region. For me, Spring is the time for renewal with luscious new growth.

Artist Bio

Monika Scheffler is a Sydney based visual artist who specialises in acrylic and watercolour paintings. She was hooked for life in 2012, when she started participating in various courses to this day, either online, in classrooms and workshops.
Monika draws inspiration from nature and captures its beauty in her realistic to impressionistic style. Her artworks can feature delicate details, expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colours. Her goal is to bring joy and peace to the viewer through her natural landscapes and floral art.
Monika has exhibited her paintings in several group art shows, online platforms as well as a gallery in collaboration with another artist and has won several awards along the way, receiving positive feedback from critics and collectors alike. Some of her notable works include “Blue Mountains – Three Sisters”, “Govetts Leap Blue Mountains”, “Flower Power”, “Manly Ferry Ride at Sunset” and “Autumn Sunshine”.
For this year, in response to the world around us, Monika has set her sights to creating more impressionistic floral artworks, incorporating her love of colours as well as honing her skills with soft pastels after having participated in a workshop in recent times amidst finalising projects she began last year.
