Winter Sunshine at Garie Beach in Royal National Park

We were on our way home after visiting the Illawarra Coast, when we took the turn into the Royal National Park and ended up at Garie Beach. I was inspired by the late winters sunshine over the hill sides and the first shadows along this beautiful beach. With a prominent cliff covered in lush greenery, parts of which are in shadow and another in the distance, glowing in the afternoon sunshine. A sandy beach stretching into the far distance, with footprints and bordered by posts connected with ropes. Latecomers just relaxing in the still warm sand or strolling along the length of the beach. I painted the gently crashing ocean waves in various hues indicating movement and depth and of course some flocks of seagulls is a must. A wonderful contrast with the deepening shadows along the beach against the remaining sunlit areas. "Winter Sunshine at Garie Beach in Royal National Park" was a pleasure to create.

Monika Scheffler is a Sydney based visual artist who specialises in acrylic and watercolour paintings. She was hooked for life in 2012, when she started participating in various courses to this day, either online, in classrooms and workshops.

For this year, in response to the world around us, Monika has set her sights to creating more impressionistic floral artworks, incorporating her love of colours as well as honing her skills with soft pastels after having participated in a workshop in recent times amidst finalising projects she began last year.
