I am a practicing artist, residing on the Mornington Peninsula. After studying industrial design and a successful career of 17 years in project management, and two small children just starting school, I found that I no longer had a passion for corporate life. I needed more creativity in my life and more time to be available for my children and family. So I decided to follow my life long passion to establish my artist practice and business in my home studio. My business The Callen Collective was established in May 2017. Through energetic and passionate, broad, brush strokes, I capture the essence of summer and life by the sea. I paint abstract landscapes and figures of character and determination. My inspiration is the warmth of the sand and contrasting coolness of the water, the heat, the life, the people and the simple joys of summer.
Using a modern impressionist style, my current work hints at detail, but is actually letting the viewer fill in the story of the painting.
Raised in an artistic, creative family, art has always been a part of my life. As a child I spent many holidays on the beaches of northern New South Wales with my family, photographing and capturing details of the beach and surrounds. These ideas:, the feeling of being connected to the land, sea and the beach, are embedded in my creative ideas and expressed in my artwork.
