Artwork Description

New, Big and Beautiful! - Memories of Magnolia - now available

Spring is in the air! I love this season, it's one of hope, warmth and new beginnings. With this change, my work has begun to lighten up and explore a more minimalist approach.

My latest works, Memories of Magnolia and Magnolia Dreams, started with layers of rich colour and bold marks. Over the process of time, I begun to add new layers of lighter colours and drips over top to leave just a hint of once was. The result are two stunning peaceful works with subtle references showing through.

These pieces are both 103 x 103cm each framed beautifully in natural timber frames by Melbourne Framers Southern Buoy.

Artist Bio

Natalie Parker is an abstract artist based in Melbourne. Her expressive paintings explore the rawness of human emotion through gestural mark making, contrasting brushstrokes and colour. With a paint brush in her hand since kindergarten, art has been the vehicle through which this introvert can express herself to the world.

Formally trained with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Postgraduate Diploma of Secondary School Art Teaching, Natalie's art knowledge and experience provides her with a wealth of ideas to explore in the studio. Natalie's process begins with a colour palette and feeling in mind as she takes to the canvas. Often beginning with expressive brushstrokes and gestural mark making. As the work begins to take form she pulls back and assesses what to leave and what to remove. With layers of colour and a push and pull conversation emerging, Natalie remains in the dance of the work until resolution and peace arise.

Through her work, Natalie aims to bring a sense of calm and order and show that beauty and joy can emerge in even the most challenging seasons of life.
