Artwork Description

This painting is a finalist for the Bluethumb Art Prize 2022.

Bowl of lemons and butterflies is part of my long-running the Bowl series. I love painting lemons and I have been painting them numerous times in my still life. I never get bored of painting it. I love their golden yellow colour that play contrast with the blue and white porcelain bowl. The butterflies are flying around to add a sense of life to the picture.

Lemon is a symbol of happiness and prosperity. In the Dutch still life, lemons symbolise luxury as well as the ephemeral of life

Artist Bio

Based in Sydney, Natasha Junmanee is an accomplished painter who focuses on still life compositions. She creates works that embody the beauty of stillness, drawing inspiration from various objects around her life. Her works often incorporate symbolic elements that speak to the themes of culture, memory, place and time. With a keen eye for balance and harmony, Natasha creates tranquil and contemplative scenes in her realistic style using traditional techniques. Her works pay homage to the classical still life paintings of the Dutch and Flemish masters, while imbuing her unique perspective and vision. She also enjoys exploring other subject matters such as flowers, animals, figures, and landscapes using different mediums.

“ The primary focus of my work is on beauty - a beauty that can be immediately appreciated by people from all walks of life, without the need for complex interpretations. Whether viewers choose to seek meaning in my paintings based on their own experiences or simply enjoy them at face value, my aim is to create works that are accessible and enjoyable to all. ”

Natasha has been a finalist in numerous art prizes and has won several awards. Her works were featured in various art magazines, and in 2019 her still life painting 'Luscious Pears' was featured in a national reality TV show 'The Block 2019' in Mitch and Mark's butler pantry.
