Lake Tyrrell is a shallow, salt-crusted depression in the Mallee district of north-west Victoria, in Australia. Getting here is a 5 hour drive from Melbourne and staying the night is a must if you want to experience both a sunset and a sunrise. Tourism here has increased in recent years with bus loads of people being dropped off at the main viewing area but there isnβt much to see from there. To get the most out of this place you need to put your gumboots on and go for a hike, which is exactly what I did. Spent hours out here exploring the edge of the lake I came across salt bush bearing the signs of a drought. Upon closer observation I noticed that it was actually alive and well, it was the salt powder that covered this bush that gave it a white and pale appearance as if it were dead.

Artist Bio
Nick Psomiadis was born in 1968 in Melbourne, Australia to Greek parents who migrated to the country in the mid-sixties. He received his education from a Technical School, renowned for its comprehensive curriculum integrating both academic and practical skills. This solid foundation paved the way for his successful career in jewelry making, which spanned nearly two decades starting in 1986. Additionally, he indulged in his love for photography, which he pursued as a hobby and pastime.
In 2011, Nick made a life-changing decision to follow his passion for photography, leaving behind a fulfilling profession. He furthered his education, completing a course of studies that encompassed both theory and practical training, and was conferred with a "Diploma of Photography." However, he quickly realized that turning his passion into a profession would require immense effort and dedication.
Establishing a home studio, Nick laid the foundation for his art, which he created and exhibited for a decade. In the winter of 2021, he achieved a significant milestone by purchasing a studio and gallery space in Melbourne, departing from his modest home studio. Nick currently produces photographic fine art, prints, and displays his works under the name N I K A R T Studio & Gallery, 7/20 Ponting Street Williamstown, Vic 3016.
Nick draws inspiration from both the natural landscape and the built environment, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to capture an ephemeral moment in time.
