Lake Tyrrell is a shallow, salt-crusted depression in the Mallee district of north-west Victoria, in Australia. Getting here is a 5 hour drive from Melbourne and staying the night is a must if you want to experience both a sunset and a sunrise. Tourism here has increased in recent years with bus loads of people being dropped off at the main viewing area but there isnโ€™t much to see from there. To get the most out of this place you need to put your gumboots on and go for a hike, which is exactly what I did. Spent hours out here exploring the edge of the lake I came across salt bush bearing the signs of a drought. Upon closer observation I noticed that it was actually alive and well, it was the salt powder that covered this bush that gave it a white and pale appearance as if it were dead.
