Abstract Vase

A further exploration of simple still life composition with a large green and blue vase dominating the scene. Filled with a bouquet of favourite native flowers all stylized and made up of open shapes filled with watercolour washes and some areas overlaid with more intricate ink linework.

Washes of loose watercolours are held together by a framework of delicate ink linework which gives a stained glass effect.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
