Afternoon Blooms

Afternoon Blooms is a watercolour and ink still life. A blue striped vase fills the middle of the painting filled with two pincushion banksias and pink flowering gums which flow up and around the vase.

There is a balance between tonal watercolour washes and areas of detailed ink linework. The painting is overlaid with ink lines akin to stained glass.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
