Bay View

Bay View is a stylized painting of a small harbour in Scotland where I spent alot of time as a child exploring the beach and fields.

An idyllic scene overlooking the harbour with its lighthouse and small boats and out to sea with a vast sunny sky.

Small shapes are picked out with shimmery watercolours. Loose and layered watercolour washes are held together with black linework giving an effect of stained glass.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
