Blue Boy

Blue Boy is a watercolour and ink painting of abeautiful blue wren perched amongst grevillea flowers.

The wren is filled with different colours and tones of blue and is depicted oversized to emphasize its unique markings. The background is made up of washes of green making the red flowers even more prominent.

Black ink linework hold the elements together while dissecting them into colour-filled shapes. Washes of subtle and rich watercolour add texture and tone.

Painted on 300gsm cotton rag watercolour paper with archival quality ink and watercolour.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
