Bottlebrush and Protea

This is a vibrant still life which started with an art deco style Banksia-decorated vase which was filled with a protea, eucalyptus leaves and bottlebrush flowers.

Each element is pared back to its essential shapes before being brought to life with colour and tone. The palette of the bouquet and background is warm and rich which contrast with the cool blues and yellows of the banksia vase.

Painted with artists quality materials on 300gsm Arches watercolour paper.

The painting meaures 31x44cm and is unframed

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
