Artwork Description

Entwined is a linocut on paper in a limited edition of 6. Winning the Printmaking prize at Ellenbrook Art Awards 2023 the first in the edition was acquired by The City of Swan into their art collection.

The image depicts a Western Spinebill perched on a branch and flanked by bunches of grevillea and gum flowers within an arched border.

The delicately carved lino block is printed in a velvety black ink before being hand coloured with washes of watercolour. The black and red adds a dramatic touch to the piece as does the art nouveau style arch.

Each print is hand coloured so may vary a little in tones and colours across the editions due to the nature of working with watercolour.

Printed on 300gsm cotton rag watercolour paper with archival artists quality materials the printed area measures 59.5x42cm with an extra border which is numbered, titled and signed.

Artist Bio

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
