Artwork Description

Jemima is a handcoloured linocut depicting a beautiful woman holding two splendid fairy wrens and a dress patterned with banksia leaves. The background is filled with bottlebrush, wattle, grevillea and gum flowers. The lino block is carved in an expressive way to create an energy in the work and it is coloured in such a way to accentuate the dress.

Artist Bio

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
