A magpie adorns a vase filled with billy buttons, eucalyptus macrocarpa and gumnuts. Placed on a vintage tablecloth the retro style lines echo in the background and across the items.

I love to play with the vases in my still life pieces and make them little paintings in their own right.

Painted with layered washes of watercolour and finished with intricate pen and ink linework which looks like stained glass.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
