Magpie Vase is a relief linocut on paper. The beautiful Australian magpie is depicted as a motif on a vase filled with billy buttons, gumnuts and eucalyptus macrocarpa. Sitting on a retro patterned tablecloth the image is filled with patterns and organic lines.

This artwork is part of a variable edition of 10 linocuts each coloured in a different colourway. The relief print is handcoloured with delicate washes of watercolour.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
