Mum's Poppies

Mum's Poppies is a watercolour and ink painting on 300gsm cotton rag watercolour paper.

Painted during a trip home this still life depicts a bowl decorated with a Scottish landscape of the village of Pennan in Aberdeenshire holding a bouquet of flowers including the beautiful poppies from my mum's garden.

Playing with pattern and colour the painting is made of watercolour washes and finished with ink linework in an art noveau/ stained glass style.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
