Of the Earth

Of the Earth is a watercolour and acrylic painting on 12oz stretched canvas.

The red tailed black cockatoo is represented within a ring of gold against an open landscape. With wattle, banksias , princess caesia and eucalyptus macrocarpa flowers surrounding the bird.

The beautiful black cockatoo is a joy to paint, a strikingly beautiful bird with distinctive red tail feathers with red being echoed in the macrocarpa flowers. The gild ring is painted with a gold watercolour and catches the light beautifully.

The painting is made up of loose and layered washes of watercolour finished with black ink linework.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
