Artwork Description

Fresh flowers rest in a blue-green vase. Banksia, eucalyptus, protea and leucadendrons sourced from a local flower farm in the Perth hills are the focus of this quiet still life. It is painted with washes of soft colours and delicate line work on a textured paper.

Watercolour washes fill the spaces created by the ink line work and makes the piece look like stained glass. The ink line work picks out each element of the image with an overlay of organic expressive lines to hold it all together.

Painted with artists quality materials on 300gsm Arches watercolour paper.

The painting meaures 30x30.5cm and is unframed

Artist Bio

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
