Rainbow Bee-eater

The stunning Rainbow Bee-eater is a joy to paint with amazing colours and shape. Depicted here in a stylized way with Sturt Desert Peas and yellow wattle.

The painting is composed of oversized elements broken down into blocks of colour with a mix of flat areas and tonal and textural ones. All held together with paynes grey linework which looks almost black.

Painted on 12oz professionally hand stretched canvas and finished with a gloss varnish to accentuate the colours.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
