Spring Blooms

Two beautiful proteas sit in a jug with tall billy buttons and fuschia gums. The jug is expressively painted with a floral design.

The composition is dramatic and offcentred to allow for the large head of the protea to take centre stage. The background is filled with tones of cobalt turquoise and the linework is a mineral blue which is painted around the edges of the canvas.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
