Artwork Description

Sunset in the Avon Valley is a watercolour and ink depiction of the stunning red tailed black cockatoo common to the area where I live in the Avon Valley. Perched on a branch with flowering gums and banksias against a stylized background.

Painted in washes of beautiful watercolour and held together with intricate ink linework giving the impression of stained glass. The painting is finished with black painted edges.

The canvas is professionally stretched and is delivered carefully wrapped and boxed.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
